VIPARITA TRIKONASANA – REVERSE TRIANGLE

To get into VIPARITA TRIKONASANA – REVERSE TRIANGLE, begin in Triangle.  Inhale, coming up to a upward standing position with the spine straight. Turn your body toward the back wall.  At standing you will be in 5 pointed star.  Then as you exhale turn your body to face the opposite direction while bringing the arm that was previously forward down to the mat.  The palm will settle on the outside of the now forward foot. Shift the feet to face the opposite direction.  The opposite hand is skyward as is the gaze, stretching the body and detoxing the organs.

Benefits:

This posture opens the chest. This helps with respiration.  Triangle improves core and abdominals while working the entire torso. This posture also strengthens the leg muscles including hamstring, calves and quadriceps.  It improves flexibility of spine, stretching the neck, shoulder area, and lower back. In addition, Trikonasana tones the back, increasing support in the lumbar region. Like most postures, this yoga posture also aids in balance. The challenging aspect of this posture is great for getting the blood moving and staying active. Also, as mentioned above, this posture is excellent for detoxification of the organs through its wringing motion.
